NEW FDA PROPOSED RULING REGARDING SUNSCREEN

On August 23, 2007, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration proposed their first new ruling on sunscreen in 30 years, a new regulation that sets new standards for formulating, testing and labeling over the counter sunscreen drug products with Ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB) protection.
 
In this proposed regulation, the warning(s) is intended to increase awareness that SUNSCREENS ARE ONLY ONE PART of a sun protection program.  Dr. Douglas Throckmorton, deputy director of the FDA's center for Drug Evaluation Research went on to say that consumers should limit their time in the sun and wear protective clothing as part of a sun protection regimen.
